Gateway to Success Job Fair Features 60+ Employers

FLORENCE, KY (FOX19)  — More than 60 employers will participate in a Gateway to Success Job Fair Thursday from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Center for Advanced Manufacturing at Gateway Community and Technical College’s Boone Campus, 500 Technology Way, Florence.

The fair is preceded by a vendor lunched sponsored by Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve from noon to 1 p.m. Col. (Ret.) Philip Miller will speak at the luncheon.

Exhibitors are invited to arrive as early as 10:45 a.m. to set up and participate in a tour of Gateway’s advanced manufacturing training facilities that prepare workers for good-paying careers in computer aided drafting and design, computerized manufacturing and machining, electrical technology, energy technologies, industrial maintenance, pre-engineering and welding.

CPS providing students will free meals throughout the summer

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Cincinnati Public School students are out for summer vacation, but the district will still offer up free meals.

CPS is sponsoring a federally funded Summer Food Service Program for Children from June 3 to August 9, at schools and recreation centers around the district.

Free meals will be available to all children 18 years of age and under, or to anyone between 19 and 21 who is determined by a state or local public-educational agency to be mentally or physically disabled.

The meals will be served at various Cincinnati Public Schools and Cincinnati Recreation Centers. To receive a free meal, come to a site 15 minutes before serving time; no preregistration needed. All meals must be eaten at the site. All sites will be closed July 4.

Meals will be provided at the following sites in the Anderson and Mount Washington area:

McNicholas High School rummage sale to benefit faculty member's family

McNicholas High School rummage sale to benefit faculty member's family

MOUNT WASHINGTON, OH (FOX19) - McNicholas High School will hold a rummage sale on Saturday, May 25 in its main gym. The event, which is from 8 a.m.-3 p.m., will be cash sales only. Admission is $1. 

All proceeds will benefit the Rohling family.  Math teacher Mrs.Christine Rohling's husband, Tom, was recently diagnosed with cancer, and funds raised will be used toward his treatment at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

Donated items will be accepted on Thursday, May 23 and Friday, May 24 between 7:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. at the rear doors of the main gym. Please no clothes, stuffed animals, bedding, or live animals.

Gateway to Recognize Outstanding Students at May 14 Awards Convocation

COVINGTON, KY — Gateway Community and Technical College will recognize the exemplary academic, leadership and technical performance of 188 students, including 106 scholarship recipients, Tuesday at its annual Night of Excellence. The convocation will take place at 7 p.m. at Notre Dame Academy in Park Hills, Ky.

Rani Clark and David Strange, both of Ft. Thomas, received top honors as recipients of the J.D. Patton Award for academic and technical excellence. The Phi Theta Kappa academic honorary earned the award for best student organization of the year.

Recipients are selected by faculty and staff committees and academic divisions based on student performance. Individual students receiving awards, include:

Kentucky Lt. Gov. Jerry Abramson to Speak at Gateway Commencement May 15

COVINGTON, KY (FOX19) — Kentucky Lieutenant Governor Jerry Abramson will be the commencement speaker May 15 at Gateway Community and Technical College’s 12th annual graduation ceremony, according to Dr. Ed Hughes, college president and CEO.

“We are delighted that the lieutenant governor could join us for this milestone event in our students’ lives,” Dr. Hughes said. “We believe Lt. Gov. Abramson’s example of achievement and community service will be inspiring to our graduates.”

The class of 2013 numbers 845 graduates who have earned a total of 1,464 credentials. The credential count exceeds the number of graduates because students may earn more than one credential.  The credential breakdown includes 362 associate degrees, 93 technical diplomas and 1,009 certificates.
