Gateway to NKU Transition Center Schedules Info Session May 10

Edgewood, Ky. (May 7, 2012) – The Gateway to NKU Transition Center  will conduct a free, public information session Thursday, May 10, at 6 p.m. in Room E101 at the Student Services Center at Gateway Community and Technical College’s Edgewood Campus.

The Gateway to NKU Transition Center is a joint venture between Gateway and Northern Kentucky University. The center is designed to assure students are college ready by taking a minimum of 12 credit hours on NKU’s campus but at Gateway’s lower, affordable tuition rate. The curriculum includes six hours of college readiness courses. After students have completed at least 12 hours with a grade of C or better, they can transfer smoothly to NKU.

NEWTOWN, OH (FOX19) - To commemorate the 35th anniversary of its founding, Meridian Bioscience Inc. is funding a $5,000 annual scholarship to support a deserving student each year at Cincinnati State.

Meridian CEO Jack Kraeutler announced the scholarship – named in honor of company Executive Chairman and Founder William “Bill” Motto – during a celebration with employees at the company’s Newtown headquarters.

Gateway Schedules Plumbing CEU Courses for May

Florence, KY (April 5, 2012)—The Workforce Solutions Division of Gateway Community and Technical College has scheduled three continuing education courses for journeyman and master plumbers in May.

The four-hour courses will take place on Saturday, May 19, at the college’s Boone Campus. The cost for each course is $60, and lunch is included in the registration fee. The registration deadline is Wednesday, May 19.

Participants must bring a photo ID and plumbing license(s) to class.

From 8 a.m. to noon, the two classes offered are: “Water Treatment/Filtration” and “Saving Energy @ Work/Workplace Security.” “Flammable & Combustible Liquids/Hazardous Communication” will be offered from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Florence, KY (April 3, 2012)—The Workforce Solutions Division of Gateway Community and Technical College has scheduled three continuing education courses in May for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning technicians who have journeyman and master license(s).

From 8 a.m. to noon, the two classes offered are: “Building Science/House as a System” and “Refrigerants.” “Flammable & Combustible Liquids/Hazardous Communication” will be offered from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Kentucky license holders take a combination of CEU courses to equal eight hours. Ohio license holders take courses equal to 10 hours.

Kids learn about the environment in Earth Hour activities

ANDERSON TOWNSHIP, HAMILTON COUNTY, OH (FOX19) - Kids from the Goddard School in Anderson Township learned about the earth and the environment in a series of activities preceding Saturday evening's Earth Hour.
On Friday more than 100 students were there to turn off the lights (except for emergency lighting) for an hour from 10-11 a.m., part of the national Earth Hour activities.  Throughout the week, kids participate din other learning activities.  They made musical instruments of recyclable materials, and they were visited by Allison Tait, a Cincinnati Parks naturalist from California Woods, who talked about ways to care for the environment and the animals.

Gateway Hosts Transfer Fair Monday at Edgewood

Edgewood, Ky. (March 29, 2012) – Gateway Community and Technical College will host a Transfer Fair for students Monday, April 2, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Student Services Center on the Edgewood Campus, 790 Thomas More Parkway.

Sponsored by Gateway and the Kentucky Association of College Registrars and Admissions Officers (KACRAO), the fair will provide first-hand information from representatives of four-year colleges and universities. Students will find out:

Gateway Official to Speak at International Skills Gap Conference in Cincinnati May 16

Covington, Ky. (March 29, 2012) – Angie Taylor, vice president of Workforce Solutions and innovations for Gateway Community and Technical College will address the European-American Chamber of Commerce’s May 16 conference on solving the skills gap.

Taylor is one of an impressive list of international speakers at the one-day conference that will address the issues and challenges the United States faces in rebuilding its skilled labor force. Gateway is a leading provider of career education for the manufacturing workforce and other technical fields.

The conference, “Skilled Labor Workforce: U.S. and European Perspectives,” is designed to enable networking and create a transatlantic dialog about successful European apprenticeship models that have proven effective in creating a skilled workforce.
