Kroger on Board with Metro to Promote Conservation June 19 and 27

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) – The Anderson Towne Center Kroger store is partnering with Metro and Anderson Township to boost bus ridership at events on June 19 and 27, from 6-8 a.m., at the Anderson Center Station park & ride (7832 Five Mile, near Anderson Center). Anderson Township and Metro are encouraging more residents in the community to take advantage of the convenient and direct service to downtown.

First-time bus riders will receive a free round-trip ride on Rt. 30X, 75X and 81X express buses to try the Metro for their commute to work. The Anderson Towne Center Kroger store will provide free coffee and donuts for riders. People who bring a “bus buddy” or who recruit new riders are eligible to enter a drawing for a free Metro 30-day rolling pass. They also will also receive a free gallon of milk from the Anderson Towne Center Kroger if they show their bus sticker.

Bookworks 14 – Cincinnati Book Arts Society’s Annual Exhibit

The 14th annual Cincinnati Book Arts Society exhibit of book art will be on view June 11-Aug. 18 in the atrium of the Main Library. CBAS is a nonprofit organization comprised of professional and amateur hand workers in the book arts. Held in partnership with the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton, its annual exhibit “Bookworks” showcases a variety of books that have been turned into creative works of art by regional artists.

Bookworks 14 events: There are two walk-throughs when artists in the show will present their art —Sunday, June 23, and Sunday, Aug. 11. There also will be a hands-on book-making demonstration Saturday, Aug. 3. All of these events take place at 2 p.m. in the atrium of the Main Library.

Gateway to Success Job Fair Features 60+ Employers

FLORENCE, KY (FOX19)  — More than 60 employers will participate in a Gateway to Success Job Fair Thursday from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Center for Advanced Manufacturing at Gateway Community and Technical College’s Boone Campus, 500 Technology Way, Florence.

The fair is preceded by a vendor lunched sponsored by Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve from noon to 1 p.m. Col. (Ret.) Philip Miller will speak at the luncheon.

Exhibitors are invited to arrive as early as 10:45 a.m. to set up and participate in a tour of Gateway’s advanced manufacturing training facilities that prepare workers for good-paying careers in computer aided drafting and design, computerized manufacturing and machining, electrical technology, energy technologies, industrial maintenance, pre-engineering and welding.

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - The Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County is tickled “pink and purple” to partner with The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati to present special storytimes with either Pinkalicious or Willy Wonka at selected Library locations. Children can meet and enjoy a story with Willy Wonka or Pinkalicious during the program. Parents can enter a drawing for tickets to a Children’s Theatre performance. And be sure to sign up for Summer Reading while you’re at the Library.

Nordyke Road closes for landslide correction

ANDERSON TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) - The Hamilton County Engineer office wants mlotorists to be aware of a road closing in Anderson Township.

Nordyke Road, between Woodland Mound Park and Hopper Hill Road in Anderson Township closed on Monday for a landslide correction.

The landslide correction, which is being performed by Hamilton County Engineer’s Eastern Maintenance Facility is anticipated to last until June 26.

Hamilton County’s detour will be routed over Hopper Hill Road to Beechmont Ave. (SR 125), to Nordyke Rd. and vice versa.

Volunteers needed for free summer lunch program at Public Library locations

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Cincinnati is ranked third in the country in childhood poverty rates. The Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County is working with Cincinnati Public Schools and Window Arts Enrichment to help meet the basic needs of these children during the summer months by making free lunches available to children when schools are not in session and their free lunch program is suspended.

The Library is offering summer lunch service at 15 locations this summer: The Children’s Learning Center and TeenSpot at the Main Library, Avondale, Bond Hill, College Hill, Covedale, Deer Park, Elmwood Place, Forest Park, Groesbeck, Madisonville, North Central, Northside, Reading, Sharonville and the West End.

ANDERSON TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) - Party on the Plaza, the Eastside’s premier summer concert series, rocks on with British influenced classic rock band BackBeat, Thursday evening from 5:30pm – 9:30pm at Anderson Center.  BackBeat is one of the most talented and versatile bands in the tri-state.  They cover artists that most bands don’t even consider, such as: The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Elvis, Led Zeppelin, Jimmy Hendrix and many more.  BackBeat has opened up for Cheap Trick and started their musical careers 20 years ago on the Rosie O’Donnell Show!!

New for 2013 is a Happy Hour at Party on the Plaza, all beers will be sold for $2.00 between 5:30pm – 6:30pm.  Get there early and sample the delicious food while taking advantage of the discounted beers.
